On the performance of high-gain observers with gain adaptation under measurement noise

چکیده
We address the problem of state observation for a system whose dynamics may involve poorly known, perhaps even nonlocally Lipschitz functions and whose output measurement may be corrupted by noise. It is known that one way to cope with all these uncertainties and noise is to use a high-gain observer with a gain adapted on-line. The proposed method, while presented for a particular case, relies on a ‘‘generic’’ analysis tool based on the study of differential inequalities involving quadratic functions of the error system in two coordinate frames plus the gain adaptation law. We establish that, for bounded system solutions, the estimated state and the gain are bounded. Moreover, we provide an upper bound for the mean value of the error signals as a function of the observer parameters. Since due to perturbations the gain adaptation law may drive the observer/plant interconnection to nearby boundary of its stability region, oscillatory behaviormay emerge. To overcome this issue, we suggest an adaptive procedure based on a space averaging technique involving several copies of the observer. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Peaking Attenuation in High-Gain Observers Using Adaptive Saturation: Application to a Ball and Wheel System
Despite providing robustness, high-gain observers impose a peaking phenomenon, which may cause instability, on the system states. In this paper, an adaptive saturation is proposed to attenuate the undesirable mentioned phenomenon in high-gain observers. A real-valued and differentiable sigmoid function is considered as the saturating element whose parameters (height and slope) are adaptively tu...

A complete procedure for the design of W-band low noise amplifier in MMIC technology is presented. The design is based on a simultaneously power and noise matched technique. For implementing the method, scalable bilateral transistor model parameters should be first extracted. The model is also used for transmission line utilized in the amplifier circuit. In the presented method, input/output ma...
متن کاملHigh-gain observers in the presence of measurement noise: A switched-gain approach
This paper considers output feedback control using high-gain observers in the presence of measurement noise for a class of nonlinear systems. We study stability in the presence of measurement noise and illustrate the tradeoff when selecting the observer gain between state reconstruction speed and robustness to model uncertainty on the one hand versus amplification of noise on the other. Based o...
متن کاملChattering Free with Noise Reduction in Sliding-Mode Observers Using Frequency Domain Analysis
Sliding-mode observers are known to be robust against presence of disturbances and modeling uncertainties [1−3]. Although these observers are highly robust with respect to noises in system inputs, it turned out that the corresponding stability degrades in systems that exhibit output noise or mixed uncertainties [4]. When the measurements are noisy, because the time derivatives cannot be accurat...
